Under the Chief

On screen

A hospital floor goes quiet once the operating theatre wraps for the night, leaving charts, paperwork and one on-call room. Harriet has one night of probation left and is wearing scrubs a size too small and sure that Vanessa, the head nurse, wants her fired. The surgical chief keeps glancing at her and says a quiet floor should not be wasted on paperwork. Vanessa predicts the newcomer will not last the night. The board is waiting on a note from the chief before seven.

On a slow night the chief announces that the newcomer is with him tonight. Harriet apologizes for her too-small scrubs, and he tells her they look perfect. 2. Ep. 2Gossip at the doorfree account

Inside, Harriet is mortified to have sworn at her boss on her final shift; he says he likes it and picked her because she is not like Vanessa. How bold it gets

Intimacy behind a shut door, mostly suggested through voices and reactions, with the jealous nurse talking outside. Nothing graphic is shown in the first two episodes.

Still open after episode 2

Still to be decided: whether Harriet keeps her job when the night ends, and what Vanessa does once she works out what the training was.

Names you will hear: Harriet and Vanessa.
