My First Night Shift

An elegant old hotel at night, the lobby quiet and the front desk lit, is where the new night manager starts his first shift. He did not expect room service to be part of the job. A colleague, Sloane, tells him to relax and stay behind the desk, then gets called upstairs. The phone rings with a request for the night's special in room 808. He hopes for a quiet night; the guests are hoping otherwise.

   At the front desk, Sloane teases him for looking like he expects a fire alarm and tells him it is only his first night. She leaves for upstairs. A call asks for the special in room 808. He brings the plate, and the guest explains hunger had nothing to do with the call, and that what she ordered was him.

   Inside room 808, the guest remarks that someone is enjoying his new job and says she will get more comfortable. She invites him to join her if he wants. He tells himself he cannot believe this is happening. She calls him closer, addressing him by his title, and says she wants a taste of her dessert.
