A family house goes quiet once a packed suitcase rolls out the door for a business trip. At the threshold, he tells his adult son that Ava, his wife and a grown woman in her twenties, is the one giving orders now, and makes him repeat the words. Ava lays down rules at once: the phone stays in the kitchen, and nobody enters her room without knocking. She keeps rule three to herself. The son wants to keep his distance; Ava wants him obedient.

   The father's parting order is that whatever Ava says goes, and he makes his son say it aloud. Ava hands out her rules in the kitchen and wants him holding her ankles during her stretches, a job his father usually does. When he hesitates, she reminds him it was not a question. Later he lingers at her door and realizes she has seen him.

   Now Ava walks into his room without knocking, saying no rule covers his door. He objects that she married his dad. She points out that he watched her through her door for a full minute earlier and tells him she liked it. Then she finally reveals rule three: this time he watches, and he is told not to look away.
