My Mother-In-Law Wants To Be My Hall Pass

On screen

A family dinner, with the kitchen within earshot of the dining room and coffee brewing, sets the scene. Kate laughs that her faith in Dan is so complete she would let him cheat, certain he never would. Dan is making coffee when Margot, her mother, comes to ask if he heard. Kate thinks he is a saint. He says he is only married. Margot mentions a book club evening, seven to ten, and leaves the rest unsaid.

Episode by episode

1. Ep. 1Coffee can waitno account

In the kitchen Margot asks Dan if he heard the hall pass joke and whether he would use it. He says no at once, and she remarks that nobody has ever refused her that fast. Kate calls for coffee. Margot notes his racing heart, calls him a liar when he denies thinking about it and names tomorrow evening, seven to ten.

2. Ep. 2Fix the bucklefree account

The next evening he offers her water and she wants something else. She asks him to sit and fix a buckle, praising his hands. He reminds her he said no twice and will say it again; she says she likes hearing it. Kate calls to check in and says she expects to be home at ten; then Margot asks him to unzip her.

How bold it gets

Mostly talk and closeness: a buckle, a zipper and pointed questions. The second episode ends on a direct request, not a bedroom scene.

Still open after episode 2

Dan has said no three times so far; the other episodes have to show whether a fourth refusal ever comes, and whether Kate's joke stays a joke.

Names you will hear: Margot, Dan and Kate.
